The annual gathering of old friends and a few new faces met up at the Forest Pines Hotel and Golf resort to take part in the 16th staging of the Mortons Golf Day on May 15th.
A chilly morning soon gave way to a warm and sunny day, once again demonstrating luck was better than science with the weather, as has been customary with this event.
A healthy gathering for the pre-day dinner brought out the usual stories and poor jokes and a pleasurable evening was had by all. There were a few glasses raised in memory of John Marriott, who was with us last year, but sadly passed away in March.
On a course that always seems demanding, with tricky greens, it reflected in another low scoring victor.
Wayne Sandiland led the way to the winner’s rostrum, for his second win in this event, from Chris Coward (Local World) and Nik Evans (Barrelfield).
Longest drive went to Mike Pennington (Hull Daily Mail) and Lee Owens (Westferry) took the nearest the pin prize.
The staff prize and winner of The Barry Leatherland Memorial Trophy went to Steve Scott.
Ian Fisher thanked our sponsors Fuji, Remondis and Sun Chemicals for donations of prizes and thanked everyone for their attendance of another successful event.
